Rhasidat Adeleke set to return to track action after record breaking feats in Florida
All eyes will be on Rhasidat Adeleke when she returns to track and field action at the 2023 Texas Invitational this weekend.
The Irish athlete is returning to action two weeks after she broke her 200m and 400m national records at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida.
The 20 year old will compete in the 100m and 200m events at the 2023 Texas Invitational and she will be running in the blue ribband race for the first time this season.
The Irish sprinter holds a lifetime best of 11.31 in the 100m and with her record breaking feats so far in the indoor and outdoor season, expectations are high that the Irish U20 record holder will become the senior national record holder as well.
That record belongs to Phil Healy who ran 11.28 in Dublin five years ago.
Adeleke, the Corporate Communication student at the University of Texas is having an incredible 2023 season.
She was part of three collegiate records at the Texas Relays, breaking the 4×100 record (42.00), the 4×200 record (1:28.05) and the sprint medley relay record (3:36.10).
She also ran the anchor leg of the Texas relay team that won the Sanya Richards Ross relay with a time of 3:32.27.
Adeleke ran the third-fastest 400m time in Texas history (49.90) and eighth-fastest ever in NCAA history and also ran a PB in the 200 at 22.34 at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational just two weeks ago.
