Rivers State Inaugurates LOC for 2026 Niger Delta Games

The Rivers State Sports Ministry has inaugurated a seven-member Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to oversee the state’s participation in the 2026 Niger Delta Games, scheduled to hold in Benin City, Edo State, from February 20th to 27th.

Four-time Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Barrister Chris Green, will serve as Chairman of the committee, which is tasked with ensuring that Team Rivers performs creditably and secures laurels at the regional competition.

Joining him on the LOC are Professor Ken Anugweje, Comrade Emma Ndah, Obia Iyengiyikabo, and Awele Salubi, with Emmanuel Jaja appointed as Secretary. Veteran sports journalist Sammy Wejinya will serve as Media Head and Director of Communications.

Speaking at the inauguration, Barrister Green emphasized that only the best in their respective fields had been selected, urging members to bring their wealth of experience to bear in advancing sports development in Rivers State.

He expressed confidence that the committee would guide Team Rivers to success at the Games, which will feature 17 different sporting events across venues including the Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

The 2026 Niger Delta Games, sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), promises to be a landmark sporting event, showcasing talent from across the region while strengthening unity through competition.
