Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Chris Green condoles Nwabali over death of his father
Three-time Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Barr. Chris Green has commiserated with Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali over the death of his father on Thursday.
Nwabali was in goal in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with the Cheetahs of Republic of Benin in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
‘Nwabali is not just a great ambassador of Rivers State and Nigeria but also a fantastic footballer who has grown in leaps and bounds in the service of his motherland.
“This is a young man I’ve taken as a son so you could imagine my shock to learn of the sad passing of his father and I wish to send my love, support and message of condolences to our dear son, Stanley Nwabali, on behalf of the good people of Rivers State,’ Green said.
It is not clear yet if Nwabali will be in goal for Nigeria in their final AFCON 2025 qualifier against the Amavubi of Rwanda next week at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
Nwabali was Nigeria’s first choice at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final tournament held early this year in Cote d’Ivoire and helped the Super Eagles reach the final of the tournament for the first time in 11 years.
