Rohr backs Super Eagles for 2026 World Cup spot

Benin Republic head coach and former Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has expressed his support for the Super Eagles’ quest to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to international journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, Rohr praised his current team, the Guépards, for their spirited performance in the World Cup qualifiers, saying, ‘Indeed, the Guépards can be proud of their FIFA World Cup qualifiers performance.’
The former Nigeria gaffer has now turned his focus to the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to start this December. Rohr masterminded Benin’s return to the Africa Cup of Nations six years when they last appeared when they finished second behind Nigeria in Group D of the qualifiers.
The Guépards made it to he semifinals in 2019 and will be hoping to go at least a step higher in Morocco.
‘We prepare for a good AFCON now,’ Rohr told Osazu.
Despite now leading Benin, Rohr still holds a soft spot for Nigeria, adding, ‘We wish the Super Eagles to go to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.’
