Rohr warns Eagles: ‘We will do everything to be in Morocco for the 2025 AFCON’
Former Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr is confident he can clip the Super Eagles’ wings for the second time this year when he leads his Cheetahs of Republic of Benin against his former side in the penultimate game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday.
Rohr and his Cheetahs must beat Nigeria to stand a chance of returning to Africa’s biggest football tournament next year in Morocco.
The Cheethas are second behind Nigeria with six points, four adrift of the Super Eagles who only need a draw to seal their spot for the 20th time in the competition.
If Benin Republic wins, they will be just a point behind Nigeria knowing that a Rwandan win against Libya in Kigali can only get the Amavubis to eight points.
While the Cheetahs will travel to Libya for their final game, the Amavubi of Rwanda will visit the Super Eagles in Uyo.
Rohr knows qualification will be divided over the last two games but a loss to Nigeria will practically reduce his chances of leading the Cheetahs to Morocco in 2025.
‘It’s going to be decided over the two games, but I think Rwanda will be difficult for Libya to beat, especially at home. We will be ready for the final match in Libya in Tripoli. We will do everything to be in Morocco for the next AFCON,’ Rohr said when he unveiled his team for the two games.
