Russell gunning for Charlton’s 60m hurdles world record
Olympic 100m hurdles champion, Masai Russell says she will be gunning for the 7.65 world 60m hurdles record Bahamian, Devynee Charlton set at the World indoor championships last year in Glasgow, Scotland.
Russell, joint 16th in the all-time list in the event after running 7.75 at the Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico believes she is well ahead of her preparations for the 2025 athletics season following her incredible gold medal win at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
‘I think I’m ahead of where I was at last year, just mentally and physically. I have some big goals coming. The women’s 100m hurdles doesn’t make it easy on anybody. I know that I have to come in even stronger, even faster, even better. I’m looking to break the world record indoors this season and win the world indoor title,’ Russell told Citius Magazine recently.
The 24 year old is confirmed to race the 60m hurdles at the 117th Millrose Games to be held at the NIKE Track and Field Center at The Armoury in New York where one of her rivals, Charlton will also be at the starting block to defend her title.
This will be Russell’s first appearance at the Millrose Games and all eyes will be on the American come February 8, 2025.
Russell ran 12.25 in the 100m hurdles on her way to winning the USA Olympic Trials last season and fulfilled expectations as favourite for the Olympic gold barely two months later.
Her 12.25 run is joint fifth in the all-time list.
