Ruth Usoro soars to new 6.82m lifetime best in Bermuda
Camacho-Quinn threatens Amusan with a wind-aided 12.17 run
Nigeria’s Ruth Usoro leapt to a new 6.82m lifetime best at the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix held Sunday at the National Sports Centre in Devonshire, Bermuda.
The Nigerian triple jump record holder indoors and out achieved the feat with her last jump of the event to confirm her third place finish behind USA duo of Tara Davis-Woodhall (7.11w) and Quanesha Burks (7.04w).
The jumped also moved the –year old to number one spot in Africa this outdoor season above Ese Brume (6.77m) and number five in the world.
She also retained the number four spot in the Nigerian all-time list she leapt to in May 2022 in Lubbock, Texas where she set a then personal best of 6.78m.
Meanwhile, reigning Olympic 100m hurdles champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn raced to a wind-aided 12.17 to win the high hurdles event at the USTAF event in Bermuda.
The Puerto Rican is seeing as the greatest threat to Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan retaining the world title she won last year in Oregon,USA at the World Athletics Championships.
Jamaica’s Danielle Williams came in second (12.38) while USA’s Tonea Marshall placed third in 12.39.
The Nigerian and the Puerto Rican are scheduled to meet next weekend at another USTAF event before heading to the Athletissima Diamond League meeting in Lausanne on June 30.
The duo will go head to head again 16 days later at the 14th Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, another Wanda Diamond League meeting in Silesia, Poland.
