Rwanda coach: ‘We are going to play against a world class squad with quality players’

Amavubi of Rwanda head coach, Torsten Frank Spittler has admitted the Super Eagles of Nigeria will give his side a hard time in Tuesday’s 2025 African Nations Cup qualifier at the Amahoro Stadium.

Rwanda and Nigeria are pooled in Group D of the qualifiers and have met four times with the Super Eagles winning once and the three others drawn.

The first and only time the Super Eagles defeated the Amavubi was in 2012 in the qualifying game for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations which the Nigerians went on to win in South Africa.

The German, Spittler says he trusts his men to live up to their expectations against their star studded opponents and while playing before their home supporters.

“It is going to be a tough game. We are going to play against a world class squad with quality players. Our training has been good and I am positive we will get something out of the encounter,” Spittler said at the pre-match press conference.

Nigeria’s interim head coach, Austin Eguavoen is however confident his side will make it two wins on the bounce after defeating Benin Republic 3-0 in their opening game of the group.

“This is my third time here; the first time I came as an assistant coach to Christian Chukwu. I respect Rwanda very much and they also respect us. It will be a great game, but our objective is to win the game.”

“I will commend Rwanda for the great reception we have received. We are on a mission, and we hope to achieve our target.”

A win for Amavubi would see them move top of the group with 4 points after two match days while a win for Nigeria would ensure their top spot with six points.
