Rwanda Vs Nigeria: Osimhen starts from bench for the seventh time in 37 games, Lookman to make 18th start

Galatasaray of Turkey foward, Victor Osimhen will be making his 15th appearance on the bench for Nigeria in Tuesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against the Amavubi of Rwanda at the Amahoro stadium in Kigali.

Osimhen started from the bench and scored a goal when he came in against the Cheetahs of Republic of Benin last Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo and the 25-year-old will be hoping to come in for the second time on Tuesday and score again.

If he is subbed on at any stage of the game, it will be his 37th for the senior national team and he will be keen to add to the 16 goals in has scored in AFCON qualifiers in what will be his 14th appearance.

Osimhen is just two goals behind Egypt’s Mo Salah in the top scorers’ list in the qualifiers and the Nigerian will be hoping to either tie or go above the Liverpool star.

He will also be keen to move above the legendary Segun Odegbami in the Nigerian all-top top scorers’ list.

Odegbami is second behind Rashidi Yekini (37) with 23 goals, one more than Osimhen who scored his 22nd in the game in Uyo last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman who scored a brace against the Cheetahs will be making his 18th start in 25 games.

The Atalanta of Italy forward has so far netted four games in AFCON qualifiers, and he will be keen to add to that tally.

Also playing is team captain, William Troost-Ekong who will be making his 70th start for the Super Eagles in 74 games.
