Saka makes Premier League history with goal Vs Liverpool
At 23 years and 52 days old, Bukayo Saka has become the youngest ever player to score 50 Premier League goals for Arsenal, supplanting club legend, Thierry Henry who was 24 years and 128 days old when he scored his 50th in the competition in 2001.
The 23-year-old scored on his injury return against Liverpool Sunday evening at the Emirates stadium in a Premier League match week nine game.
The Nigeria-born England international had missed Arsenal’s last two games, the 2-0 loss at Bournemouth in the Premier League last weekend and the Gunners’ 1-0 defeat of Shaktar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Saka scored his 50th goal in his 178th appearance for the north London club. That actually makes him the 10th-slowest to hit the milestone in terms of games played.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (79) and Henry (83) lead the way there.
He is also the 11th Arsenal player to reach the half-century in the Premier League and the 40th men’s player to reach a half-century of league goals overall, and the fifth youngest.
The England international tied a club record earlier this season by assisting in each of Gunners’ opening five Premier League games, and only Thierry Henry had done that previously back in 2004/05.
Saka has been directly involved in 10 goals in eight appearances in the Premier League this season (3 goals, 7 assists); the fewest games by an Arsenal player to reach 10+ in a single campaign since Cesc Fàbregas in 2009-10 (6 games).
