Salah Becomes First African to Reach 50 UEFA Champions League Goals

Mohamed Salah has written his name into the history books, becoming the first African player to score 50 goals in the UEFA Champions League.

The Egyptian forward reached the milestone during Liverpool’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Galatasaray at Anfield, overturning a 1-0 first-leg deficit to secure a 4-1 aggregate win and a place in the quarter-finals.

Liverpool, trailing from the opening leg in Istanbul, quickly took control of the return fixture. Salah missed a penalty in the first half but responded after the break with a brilliant curling strike into the top corner, marking his landmark goal.

He also provided a superb assist for Hugo Ekitiké, while Ryan Gravenberch added another to complete the rout.

Salah’s achievement cements his place at the top of Africa’s Champions League scoring charts.

Didier Drogba is second with 44 goals in 92 appearances, followed by Samuel Eto’o with 30 in 78 matches.

Former teammate Sadio Mané ranks fourth with 27 goals in 64 games, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Riyad Mahrez share fifth place on 20 goals, with Aubameyang achieving the tally in 46 games and Mahrez in 55.

Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy has 19 goals in just 28 matches, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen has 16 in 26, Ivory Coast’s Seydou Doumbia scored 15 in 31 appearances, and Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar rounds out the top ten with 14 goals in 23 games.
