Salah Eyes Historic AFCON Scoring Streak Against Angola
Mohamed Salah will look to extend his remarkable Africa Cup of Nations scoring record when Egypt face Angola in their final Group B match at the Grand Stade d’Agadir on Monday.
The Liverpool forward has already struck twice at the 2025 finals, scoring in both of Egypt’s opening victories against Zimbabwe and South Africa. His penalty against South Africa took his AFCON tally to nine goals in 21 appearances, making him Egypt’s third‑highest scorer in the competition’s history. Only Hassan El‑Shazly (12) and current national team coach Hossam Hassan (11) sit ahead of him.
Salah’s goals have come across five different editions of the AFCON, a feat no other Egyptian has achieved. He has scored against nine different nations, and Egypt remain unbeaten whenever he finds the net (eight wins, one draw).
The 33‑year‑old has never previously scored in three consecutive AFCON matches, but with his current form, he has the chance to set another personal milestone against Angola. He is also chasing the possibility of becoming Egypt’s all‑time leading scorer at the tournament, a record within reach if he continues his scoring run in Morocco.
Egypt have already secured top spot in Group B and qualification for the knockout stages, but Salah’s pursuit of history ensures their clash with Angola carries added significance.
