Salah Sets AFCON Record, Scores Against 11 Different Nations
Mohamed Salah has carved out a new milestone in African football history, becoming the first player to score against 11 different national teams in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Egyptian forward, who continues to shine for both club and country, achieved the record during Egypt’s 3–1 quarter-final victory over Ivory Coast in Morocco.
His goal, a composed finish from an Emam Ashour cross in the 52nd minute, gave the Pharaohs a crucial advantage and secured their place in the semi-finals against Senegal.
The 33-year-old now has 11 goals across five editions of the tournament, equalling the tally of Egypt coach Hossam Hassan and moving within one of the late Hassan Shehata.
This year’s competition has been Salah’s most prolific, with four goals already to his name, leaving him just one behind Morocco’s Ibrahim Diaz in the race for the Golden Boot.
His record-breaking run includes strikes against Ghana and Burkina Faso in 2017, DR Congo and Uganda in 2019, Guinea-Bissau and Morocco in 2021, Mozambique in 2023, and Zimbabwe, Benin, South Africa, and Ivory Coast in 2025.
Salah’s consistency has placed him alongside the continent’s greatest players, surpassing the achievements of Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, and André Ayew.
Over the past decade, he has been one of AFCON’s most influential figures, with 11 goals and five assists, second only to Senegal’s Sadio Mané in overall goal involvements.
