Senegal Rewards AFCON 2025 Heroes with €115,000 and Land Plots
Senegal’s triumphant Teranga Lions have been rewarded with cash prizes and land allocations following their victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced that each player in the squad will receive €115,000 along with a 1,500 square metre plot of land on the Petite Côte. The gesture comes after Senegal defeated hosts Morocco in a dramatic final in Rabat last Sunday, securing their second continental crown.
The match was decided by Pape Gueye’s thunderous strike in extra time, after Senegal had staged a brief walkout in protest of a controversial late penalty awarded to Morocco in regulation time.
According to APA News, members of the Senegalese Football Federation will also receive €75,000 each and 1,000 sqm of land, while ministry officials who accompanied the team to Morocco will share €465,000 plus plots of land.
At a grand reception held in Dakar on Tuesday, President Faye conferred the national honour of Commander in the National Order of the Lion on head coach Pape Thiaw and all 28 players. Federation president Abdoulaye Fall was elevated to the rank of Grand Officer.
The president singled out Sadio Mané for praise, lauding his leadership and calming influence during the tense final. He also paid tribute to Aida Faye, a Senegalese student who tragically lost her life in an accident in Morocco during the tournament.
