Serie A: Lookman seeking to end goal drought, eyes first win in four games against Juventus
Ademola Lookman will be aiming not to extend his Serie A goal drought to three games for the first time this season when he and his club, Atalanta host Juventus at the Gewiss stadium in Bergamo Tuesday night.
The Nigerian has not scored in his last two Serie A games and a repeat performance on Tuesday night will be the second time this season he would not score in three games in a row in the competition this season after failing to score against Bologna, Genoa and Venezia between September 28 and October 20, 2024.
Interestingly, Lookman and Atalanta have also failed to win in their last two games.
For the Nigerian, the game also offers him the opportunity to score his first goal against one of the big teams in the competition.
The former Fulham and Leicester City player has featured four times against the Old Lady since he moved to the Serie A in August 2022 and has not won a game against the former Serie champion.
Juventus and Inter Milan remain two out of the big teams in Italy Lookman is yet to win a match against in the division but the 27-year-old has scored twice against the former.
Lookman will also be looking to either equal or surpass Simy Nwankwo whose 34 goals in 116 appearances makes him the second-best Nigeria all-time top scorer in the history of the Serie A behind Victor Osimhen who netted 65 times in 108 games.
If Lookman scores once on Tuesday night, he will move joint level in second or if he scores a brace like he has done twice so far this season in the competition, he will move into outright second position.
