Sheffield Wednesday Vs Southampton: Aribo declared fit, set to make Championship debut

Southampton gaffer, Russell Martin has declared Joe Aribo fit for the club’s Championship opener on Friday following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.

Aribo has been linked with a return to former club, Rangers but Russell says the 27 year old is available for selection against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

‘Stuey [Armstrong] is back, Joe Aribo’s back, Jan Bednarek’s back, so that’s really positive for us – three really good players and good characters who will help us, for sure,’ the coach said at his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

The Nigerian missed the club’s last two preseason friendlies.

Aribo, who will wear the number 7 jersey, featured 27 times and scored two times for Southampton across all competition last season.
