Shomurodov Double Cuts Onuachu’s Lead in Top Scorer Race

İstanbul Başakşehir striker Eldor Shomurodov reignited the battle for the Süper Lig golden boot with a brace in his side’s 3-0 victory over Gençlerbirliği at the Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium.

The Uzbekistan forward took full advantage of Paul Onuachu’s absence, as the Nigerian missed Trabzonspor’s 1–1 draw at Alanyaspor due to a muscle injury.

Shomurodov, 30, has now netted 18 goals in 29 league appearances this season, reducing Onuachu’s lead to four. The Trabzonspor striker, 31, remains on 22 goals from 25 matches.

With just five games left in the campaign, Onuachu will be desperate to return to action as he bids to succeed compatriot Victor Osimhen as Süper Lig top scorer.

His comeback could not be more dramatic, with Trabzonspor set to host Shomurodov’s Başakşehir at Papara Park on Sunday, April 19.
