Shooting Stars players, officials, referees safe: NPFL issues preliminary statement on Kano matchday incident

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) management has expressed deep concern over troubling reports and viral video footage from the Matchday 8 fixture between Kano Pillars and Shooting Stars, which suggest that fans stormed the pitch immediately following the final whistle.

In a statement signed by Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, the NPFL strongly condemned any form of violence, intimidation, or misconduct targeted at players, match officials, or spectators.

Owumi emphasized that the league is currently awaiting comprehensive match reports and full video documentation from the Match Commissioner and Referees to guide its response.

‘This incident, though isolated, is being treated with the utmost seriousness. Appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken once all relevant details have been reviewed,’ the statement read.

The NPFL also confirmed ongoing communication with the Match Commissioner, Referees, and Shooting Stars officials, assuring the public that their safety has been secured.

‘We remain steadfast in our commitment to upholding discipline, ensuring safety, and promoting professionalism at all NPFL venues nationwide,’ Owumi concluded.
