Silesia Diamond League: Enekwechi fifth in Shot Put, moves closer to a place in the final
African Games champion, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has moved to fifth place in the standing and a step closer to competing in next month’s Diamond League final after finishing fifth in Silesia on Sunday.
The Paris 2024 Olympics finalist threw 20.93m on his fourth attempt to secure fifth place behind Ryan Crouser (22.14m), Joe Kovac (22.12m), Fabbri Leonardo (22.03m) and Payton Otterdahl (20.95m).
Enekwechi has now garnered 10 points from two meetings in Oregon and Silesia.
Only six athletes will compete in the final and Enekwechi will hope for at least a repeat performance when the Diamond League train makes its 13th stop at the Golden Gala in Rome at the end of the month.
Meanwhile, Nigerian-American, Annettee Nneka Echikunwoke placed fourth in the Hammer throw at the meeting.
The Paris Olympics silver medalist threw 70.52m on her second attempt after a no throw in her first to move second but compatriot, Kassanavoid Janee’s 70.55m effort dropped the African record holder to third before Azerbaijan’s Skydan Hanna dropped her further to fourth with her 71.82m fifth round throw which was enough for second place behind another American who won with her third round effort (76.19m).
