Simbine takes on world leader, Kishane Thompson in Szekesfehervar, Hungary
Former African 100m record holder, Akani Simbine will seek to prove his readiness to turn Olympics fourth and fifth place finishes to a podium appearance this time in Paris, France when he makes his third appearance at the quadrennial event.
The South African is returning to the Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, one of the 2024 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold events after winning in his first two previous appearances.
The two times the 30 year old has competed in Szekesfehervar, he has ran faster than he has ever has. In 2016, he won, running a new 9.89 lifetime best and has never ran faster until he returned to Szekesfehervar in 2021 and he not only broke his personal best but also Nigerian, Olusoji Fasuba’s 9.85 African record with his 9.84 performance.
Simbine will be hoping to run another fast time with less than a month to the start of the track and field event of the Paris Olympics.
Lined up against Kishane Thompson, the reigning world leader (9.77) in the blue ribband event and Botswana’s wonder boy, Lestile Tebogo, Simbine will be inspired to run well and fast.
