Simbine Targets 13th Diamond League 100m Win in Xiamen

South Africa’s Akani Simbine is set to headline the men’s 100m at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Xiamen on May 23, chasing what would be his 13th victory in the prestigious series.

The former African record holder, who already boasts 12 Diamond League wins, is aiming not only to add another triumph to his tally but also to move closer to securing his first overall series title in 2026.

Simbine won the Xiamen 100m last year and has three overall victories at the event in 2025, making him one of the most consistent performers on the circuit.

The race promises to be a showcase of sprinting talent, with Simbine joined by fellow South African Gift Leotlela, who impressed with a fifth-place finish at the World Championships in Tokyo.

Olympic medalists Letsile Tebogo and Kishane Thompson are also confirmed, alongside reigning Diamond League champion Christian Coleman and American stars Kenny Bednarek and Trayvon Bromell.

The clash in Xiamen will be an early-season test of form for the world’s fastest men.

Tebogo, the Olympic 200m champion, will look to improve on his seventh-place finish in last year’s Xiamen 100m, while Thompson hopes to build on his strong 2025 campaign that included wins in Eugene and Silesia.

Xiamen marks the third leg of the 2026 Diamond League season, which begins in Doha on May 8 and concludes with the two-day final in Brussels on September 4–5.

The series spans four continents and 15 cities, uniting the biggest names in track and field in a global showcase of speed and power.
