Spain, England Euro 2024 Final Battle to Air on GOtv
England will aim to lift their first ever Euro title and hope to stop Spain from winning a record fourth championship when they clash on Sunday. The match is set to be broadcast live on GOtv.
The Three Lions booked their second and a consecutive final appearance after Ollie Watkins found the bottom corner in the 90th minute to give England 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in the semi finals.
Gareth Southgate’s men will hope to bounce back from their defeat to Italy three years ago. Tune in GO Football (ch 61) at 8pm on Sunday to watch.
Since Southgate assumed duty as England’s manager in 2016, he has led the team to the quarter finals stage of the last four major tournaments, the only European side to achieve the feat.
Speaking ahead of the final, he encouraged his side to not cede much possession to Spain as they have been the best side in the tournament so far.
“It is not as simple as us having the ball and making them run. We have to be exceptional with the ball and without it. They have been the best team. But we are in there with what we have shown to this point. We have as good a chance as they do. We have come here to win it. It is a huge task but we are still here and fighting,” Southgate said at a post-match press conference.
La Roja could earn their historic fourth Euro triumph in impressive fashion by becoming the first side to win all seven matches en route to victory if they defeat England. Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo earned Spain 2-1 victory over France in the semi finals.
Luis De La Funte could also complete a treble of continental triumphs having previously led the Spanish U-19 and U-21 teams to Euro victory in 2015 and 2019 respectively.
‘England have quality players that can appear at any moment. We are up against a really powerful side full of experience, not just in terms of the national team, but at club level as well.
‘It’s going to be tough. But we’re looking forward to this one. We want to keep growing. This group of players are going to keep fighting to try and win the trophy,’ De La Fuente said ahead of the final.
