Sports Minister hails D’Tigress coach, Wakama over Paris 2024 Olympics basketball best coach award
Sports Development Minister, John Enoh, under fire for Nigeria’s woeful performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics has hailed D’Tigress’ coach, Rena Wakama over her award as the best women’s basketball coach at the Games.
The 32-year-old was deservedly crowned Best Coach after guiding D’Tigress to an array of historical achievements in Paris, first by defeating Australia, making it the first time they will ever win a game at the group phase in the history of the Games.
D’Tigress then stunned Canada to become the first African team to take two wins at the Games. The win secured them a ticket to the knockout phase and they became the first African team in history, men or women, to play in the Olympic Quarter-Finals.
Enoh has now joined Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu to pay tribute to the woman who guided the team to make history.
‘Coach Rena Wakama, this accolade is a testament to your outstanding leadership. Your team, @DtigressNG, demonstrated remarkable prowess and dedication under your guidance, achieving a historic quarterfinal (male or female)and a four-place ranking improvement, from 12th place to 8th place. This accomplishment is truly deserving of recognition. We extend our sincerest congratulations to you on this outstanding achievement,’ Enoh wrote on her X page.
