Sunderland join Lens and Lille in race for Chuba Akpom

Sky Bet Championship side, Sunderland AFC have reportedly joined French Ligue 1 side, Lille OSCin the race to sign Ajax forward, Chuba Akpom.

According to Foot Mercato, the 29 year old has been linked with a departure during the current transfer window following reported interests from Ligue 1 sides RC Lens and Lille OSC.

Akpom joined Ajax in 2023 from English side Middlesbrough where he scored 28 goals in 38 Sky Bet Championship games in the 2022/23 season.

Sunderland, the report says, have now entered the race and are looking to secure the striker as they attempt to consolidate their current bid for promotion back to the Premier League.

Akpom should have little problem in adjusting to the Sky Bet Championship, a league where he has scored 36 goals in 129 appearances.
