Super Eagles Euro Preview: Iheanacho targets first League goal in 13 months, Arokodare targets goal number nine

Kelechi Iheanacho scored his first goals of 2024 in Sevilla’s 3-0 Copa Del Rey win mid-week and the Nigerian will be keen to score again, this time in the LaLiga where he has gone five games without a goal and has been an unused substitute in the last three games in the competition.

The 28-year-old joined Sevilla in July as a free agent and has endured a difficult start to life in Spain until last Wednesday when he scored twice in that 3-0 win.

If he scores on Sunday when Sevilla host Umar Sadiq’s Real Sociedad at the Estadio R. Sanchez Pizjuan, it will not only be his first in six appearances in the LaLiga but also his first league goal since October 2023 when he scored in Leicester City’s 3-1 win at Swansea City.

Sadiq is also looking to score his first goal of the LaLiga season and first since March this year when he netted in his club’s 3-2 win away at Granada.

In Belgium, Tolu Arokodare will be seeking to net for the third game in a row for the second time this season in the Jupiler Pro League.

The 23 year old, Festac Town-born striker has netted eight times this season in 12 games to equal his total haul in 29 games last season and will be eager to reach double figures in a season for the first since the 2019/20 season when he scored 15 times in 16 Virsliga games in Latvia.

In France, Moses Simon is expected to return to action after missing last week’s 3-1 defeat at R. Strasbourg due to injury.

The 29-year-old will hope to return to score his first Lique 1 since August when he scored twice first in the 2-0 of AJ Auxerre and 3-1 win at Montpellier.

Against visiting Marseille at the Stade de la Beaujoire, Simon will be hoping to score his first goal in 10 appearances.

Still in France, Akor Adams will be aiming to score his first goal for Montpellier in just a little over a month and fourth in 10 games this season.
