Super Eagles Hit Highest FIFA Ranking in 13 Months
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have risen to their highest FIFA ranking in 13 months, climbing three places to 38th in the latest rankings despite missing out on a return to the World Cup stage.
This marks their first sub-40 ranking in 2025 and their best position since October 2024, when they were ranked 36th in the world.
Nigeria began the year in 43rd place globally and sixth in Africa when the first rankings of 2025 were released in April. By July, they slipped to 44th in the world but improved to fifth in Africa.
September brought another setback as they dropped to 45th and sixth on the continent, before bouncing back in October to 41st globally and fifth in Africa.
Historically, Nigeria’s highest-ever ranking is 5th, while their lowest is 82nd, with an average position of 39.
Morocco remain Africa’s top-ranked side, moving up one spot from 12th to 11th in the world. Senegal are second in Africa but dropped from 18th to 19th globally.
Egypt hold third place on the continent despite slipping two places to 34th worldwide, while Algeria stay fourth in Africa and 35th globally.
Nigeria round out the top five in Africa.
On the global stage, Spain, Argentina, France, England, and Brazil occupy the top five positions in the latest FIFA rankings.
