SWAN Condoles Nigeria Aquatics Federation Over Dunkwu’s Death
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr. Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu, President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF), who passed away on Saturday.
In a condolence letter dated March 7, 2026, SWAN Secretary-General Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo conveyed the Association’s sympathy to the NAqF Executive Board on behalf of SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin. The letter described Dunkwu’s passing as “a profound shock and a painful loss not only to the Federation but also to the entire Nigerian sporting community.”
Benjamin praised Dunkwu’s leadership and commitment to the growth of aquatic sports in Nigeria, noting that his vision and passion had already begun to inspire athletes and administrators.
‘His service to Nigerian sports has left a lasting legacy that will continue to guide the Federation for years to come,’ the letter read.
Dunkwu’s death came on the same day the Federation had scheduled a talent discovery event, Swim To The Future. He had only recently been elected President of NAqF, but in his brief tenure worked tirelessly to strengthen the foundation of aquatic disciplines in the country.
SWAN extended its prayers to Dunkwu’s family, colleagues, and the wider sporting community, urging them to find strength in the legacy he leaves behind.
‘Please, be consoled and know we are with you in prayers, at this time and always,’ the Association wrote.
His passing marks a significant loss for Nigerian sport, cutting short a presidency that had promised to usher in a new era for aquatics.
