SWAN National Executive Suspends Lagos Chapter Leaders Over Misconduct

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has officially suspended Lagos State Chapter Chairman, Ms. Olatutu Oladunni, and Secretary, Mr. Bello Omotunde Muritala, from all association related activities with immediate effect.

The suspension, conveyed in a letter dated Thursday, October 2, 2025, and copied to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, was based on findings of gross misconduct.

The NEC cited Article 21, Section (1) A and C of the SWAN Statute as the legal basis for its decision.

Following the suspension, the NEC directed both officials to relinquish all SWAN property and documents in their possession to the chapter’s leadership. Vice Chairman Mr. Aaron Akerejola has been appointed Acting Chairman to oversee the remainder of the current executive tenure.

The letter to law enforcement authorities stated thus:

‘The National Executive Committee (NEC) of SWAN has ratified the suspension of Olatutu Oladunni and Bello Omotunde Muritala from all activities of the association…

Both individuals are hereby instructed to stay away from all SWAN-related events, meetings, and forums.’

Additionally, the suspended officials have been barred from accessing any SWAN Secretariat nationwide, including those at the National Stadium Lagos and Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja.

The public has also been cautioned against engaging in any SWAN related transactions with them.

In a further move to restore order, the NEC has placed a hold on all electoral activities conducted by the Lagos SWAN Electoral Committee (SWANECO), pending new directives to be announced in due course.
