Tabugo chases NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships ticket to Florida
Adaobi Tabugo will be seeking a return to the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships when she files out for the 100m event Thursday at the NCAA East First Round at Jacksonville, Florida.
The 23-year-old failed to make the cut last year after running in the relays for her university in 2023 at the Mike Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Adaobi, who became the 20th African to run inside 13 seconds in the event, will run from lane four and strive to finish in the top three in her heat to secure an automatic qualification to the final where making the NCAA Final will become the only focus.
If she makes it to the final, the 23-year-old who ran 12.87 about a fortnight ago will be hoping to become the second Nigerian woman to win the 100m hurdles after Tobi Amusan who won in 1997.
The Jacksonville stage will not be for Tabugo alone as sprinters, Tima Godbless, Faith Okwose, Fore Abinusawa, Precious Nzeakor and Elo Blessing Okpah, as well as quarter milers, Esther Joseph, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Joy Nwokike, Onyah Onyinye Favour and Opeyemi Deborah.
These sprinters and quarter milers are seeking their debut in the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships.
