Tapper takes flight in Monaco as absent Amusan holds strong in Diamond League standings

Jamaica’s Megan Tapper delivered a career-defining performance at the Herculis EBS Meeting in Monaco, the 10th stop of the 2025 Wanda Diamond League, storming to her first-ever Diamond League victory in the women’s 100m hurdles.

Tapper clocked 12.34 seconds, equaling her personal best into a headwind of -1.1 m/s, and outpaced a world-class field that included Ditaji Kambundji (12.43s) and Nadine Visser (12.56s).

Tapper, the reigning Jamaican champion and 2020 Olympic bronze medalist, showcased her form and flair in her Diamond League debut for the season. Her win in Monaco follows her national title and confirms her status as a serious contender for the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo.

‘I did not get the opportunity to get here in 2023, so this is my first time in Monaco, my first Diamond League meeting of the year and my first Diamond League win,’ Tapper said in her post race interview with Diamond League organisres.

‘I just came here with faith and I just did what I had to do. I love hurdling with all my heart… Hurdling presents 10 opportunities to fly.’

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles (12.12s), remains second in the Diamond League standings despite not competing in Monaco.

Amusan has accumulated 17 points from three appearances this season. She trails only Grace Stark of the USA, who leads with 35 points after finishing fifth in Monaco.

The race to the Diamond League Final in Zurich is heating up, with several athletes still in contention:
