Tebogo believes he can break 19.26 Brussels Diamond League meeting record in 200m

Olympic 200m champion, Letsile Tebogo of Botswana believes he can break the 19.26 Memorial van Damme meeting record set by Jamaican Yohan Blake in September 2011 but insists he won’t be categorical about it.

Tebogo told the media at the pre-race conference in Brussels that he is refreshed and energized for the final event of the year for him and hopes to end the extraordinary season for him on a high.

‘Looking at what I did in Zurich, nobody thought 19.5 was possible looking at the weather condition, and looking at the competition in the event, I believe the stadium/meeting record of 19.26 is possible but I don’t want to put myself under the pressure of chasing the record. If it comes, well no problem but I feel refreshed after all the rounds I have gone through and feel more energized,’ said the 21-year-old.

Tebogo made history in Paris last month as the first African to win gold in the 200m and wants to end his storied and historic season on a very high.

‘Winning the Diamond League trophy will mean a lot to mean, capping what is my greatest year in athletics with a gold at the Olympics and at the Diamond League will be great,’ he said.

The Botswana star also responded to the question about him being the new Usain Bolt.

‘This is a new era and a new generation of sprinters. The old era is gone but we have not been able to break what he has achieved,’ he responded.
