Tima Godbless blazes to 7.08 lifetime best in 60m!
Nwachukwu runs new personal best in 400m, moves into eighth in Nigerian all-time list
Reigning National Sports Festival double sprint champion, Tima Godbless was in blistering form on Friday at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas where she became the eighth Nigerian woman to break 7.1 in the 60m event.
The Nigerian ran 7.08 seconds to improve her lifetime best from the 7.14 she ran last week and move joint fourth with Endurance Ojokolo in the Nigerian all-time list.
Only trio Chioma Ajunwa (7.02), Christy Opara-Thompson (7.02) and Gloria Asunmnu (7.07) have ran faster.
Godbless served notice of what was to come in the preliminary round when she ran 7.14 to equal her personal best set last week.
All eyes will now be on the 20 year old in the final later on Friday (Saturday morning in Nigeria).
Also at the meeting, Chioma Nwachukwu ran 52.25, the eighth fastest time by a Nigerian woman in the 400m to beat Ella Onojuvewevwo in heat five of the event.
The 16 year old who ran 52.46 last week in Albuquerque, New Mexico to move to the top of the Nigerian 400m indoor list this year further consolidated her at the top of the list, ahead of Onojuvwevwo whose 52.44 performance was also a personal best which ensured her status as the 10th fastest Nigerian ever over the distance.
Nwachukwu supplanted Rosemary Okafor (42.14) as the eighth fastest and the teenager will be hoping she can run faster and probably break 52 seconds which will confirm her trip to the World Indoors in Nanjing, China next month.
