Tima Godbless equals Sha’Carri Richardson’s NCAA feat

Tima Godbless is the first freshman sprinter in the USA to earn First Team All-America honours in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay since reigning world 100m champion, Sha’Carri Richardson in 2019.

The US Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association administers the selection based on the top 8 finishers in each event.

At the end of each year, an All-American team is selected, honouring the best performers of the season.

Godbless, the reigning Nigeria Sports Festival double sprint champion made it to the final of the three events.

She ran 11.08 to qualify for the final of the 100m at the NCAA outdoor championship but dropped to 11.10 to finish eighth in the final.

In the 200m, the 19 year old ran a 22.56 new lifetime best to qualify for the final and 22.87 to finish eighth in the final.

She helped the Louisiana State University, LSU, 4x100m relay team run 42.63 to qualify for the final where the team ran faster, 42.57, to finish second.

Godbless is expected to be among the sprinters that will fight for spots in Nigeria’s team to next month’s Olympic Games at the Nigeria track and field championship which starts on Sunday at the Ogbemudia stadium in Benin city, Edo state.
