‘Time to Show They Are Champions’: Owen Warns Liverpool Before Arsenal Clash

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has challenged the Reds to prove their champion mentality as they prepare for a daunting Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates tonight.

Owen, who scored 150 goals and provided 51 assists in 326 Premier League appearances, including 118 goals in 216 games for Liverpool, believes Arne Slot’s side are under pressure to deliver against one of the league’s most in-form teams.

‘You can look at the stats and the data and it will say that Liverpool are unbeaten in quite a few games,’ Owen said before the game. ‘But if you drill down a little bit more you will see that they haven’t played anyone of Arsenal’s calibre.

‘In fact, they have drawn far too many games against teams they should be beating. They are not in good form. Liverpool will be coming here and be nervous about getting beaten tonight… They are coming to the lion’s den and it is time to show they are champions.’

Arsenal, chasing the title under Mikel Arteta, have turned the Emirates into a fortress this season, while Liverpool’s recent run of draws has raised questions about their ability to keep pace.

The Gunners have won their last seven home Premier League matches. Only once under Arteta have they had a longer home league winning run, winning 10 consecutively between April and December 2022.
