Tobi Amusan’s CAS hearing may not hold this year

Tobi Amusan’s hearing at the Court of Arbitration may not hold this year following the release of the list of hearings scheduled to hold between now and
December 21,2023.

Amusan has been dragged to the Court of Arbitration by the Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU, after she was adjudged by the disciplinary tribunal not to have
deliberately missed two of the three Whereabouts failures she was charged with.

The Nigerian was ‘freed’ on the eve of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary but could not overcome the emotional and pyschological trauma
she suffered when serving her provisional susoension and was thus unable to defend a title for the first time in her very storied career.

The petite, 26 year old however showed a glimpse of what would have happened when she stormed to a 12.32 finish in Eugene, Oregon, USA to win the 100m hurdles
and in the process became the second woman in competition history to win a hat-trick of high hurdles title.

It is not certain if the Court of Arbitration will update its list of hearings again this year but athletics watchers feel the delay may affect th reigning
Nigeria, African, African Games, Commonwealth Games and Diamond League champion’s preparation for next year’s Olympics in Paris, France.

Amusan will be seeking to add the Olympic title to the World title she was last year and in the process become the greatest Nigerian track and field athlete
of all time and the greatest Nigerian sports personality of all time.

The last time she competed in the quadrennial games, she missed making the podium by five hundreth of a second, placing fourth (12.60) behind Jamaica’s Megan
Tapper who finished third (12.55) to claim the bronze medal.
