Tobi Amusan’s World Record run shortlisted for 40 greatest World Athletics Championships moments contest
The 100m hurdles world record run by Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has been listed among the greatest moments in World Athletics Championships’ history for fans to choose from as the world governing body gears up to celebrate the 40th anniverssary of its flagship event.
‘Amusan broke the world 100m hurdles record in her semifinal heat with 12.12. Later that evening – showing her world record was no fluke – she won the final with a marginally wind-assisted 12.06.’ World Athletics wrote on its website.
The world record feat is one of the greatest moments chosen from the women’s events and World Athletics is calling on fans of the sport all over the world to help choose the 40 greatest moments in the history of the event.’
Fans are to each choose their 10 favourite moments from both the women’s and men’s long lists with the winner rewarded with a trip for two people – including flights, accommodation and tickets for the first weekend of action – to the World Athletics Championships scheduled to hold in Budapest, Hungary in August.
Voting has already opened on Tuesday April 11 and will be open for four weeks, closing at midnight on 9 May.
World Athletics will reveal the top 40 moments – as decided by the fans – in the countdown to the World Championships in Budapest.
Amusan made double history at the 18th edition of the Championships in Oregon, USA last year when she became the first Nigerian to set a World outdoor record and the first to win a World outdoor title.
