Transfermarkt: Why Osimhen’s market value dropped yet again
Transfermarkt, the football website for transfers, market values, rumours and stats, has revealed why the market value of Nigeria and Galatasaray top striker, Victor Osimhen has dropped twice since he moved on loan from the Italian Serie A side, SSS Napoli to Turkish Super Lig giants, Galatasaray.
Osimhen joined the Yellow and Red last September with a market value of €100m but he is now worth €30m less in six months.
His value first dropped by €25m at the end of last year and now by another €5m three months into the new year despite scoring 20 goals in 22 Super Lig games and 26 in 30 appearances across all competitions including the six in seven Europa League matches.
Transfermarkt’s Türkiye Area Manager, Lara Karacan, has explained why the Nigerian’s value will continue to drop no matter how many goals he scores.
‘In the winter, there were countless speculations on whether Osimhen was going to leave Galatasaray before the end of his loan from Napoli. According to media reports, several clubs would have been willing to trigger his €75m exit clause.
‘But Osimhen decided to stay in the Süper Lig until the end of the season. For a player of his market value, such a decision certainly impacts his image and explains his drop in market value,’ reveals Karacan who expressed surprise the 26 year old is still playing in the Super Lig.
Osimhen has now lost his status as the most valuable African player to Manchester City and Egypt striker, Omar Marmoush whose market value rose from €60m just last December to €75m after switching the Bundesliga for the Premier League in January.
