The transfer saga surrounding Ademola Lookman has taken yet another twist. What seemed like a straightforward move to Turkey is now complicated by Atalanta’s preference for Atletico Madrid.

The Bergamo club has slowed negotiations with Fenerbahce, citing concerns over payment guarantees and financial structures, while strengthening ties with the Spanish side after recent dealings such as Matteo Ruggeri’s move.

Lookman, however, is leaning towards Istanbul. His motivation is clear: a lucrative contract worth nine million euros per season, a significant leap from his current earnings.

The Nigerian forward, fresh off his African Ballon d’Or recognition and a memorable hat-trick in Dublin, sees Turkey as the place to cash in on his rising profile.

Atalanta, on the other hand, views Atletico as the safer option, with financial flows easier to manage thanks to existing credits and recent investments.

The club is wary of the uncertainties surrounding Fenerbahce, especially after previously demanding a hefty upfront payment.

Meanwhile, coach Raffaele Palladino has asked Lookman to remain available for upcoming matches.

Should Atletico prevail, he wants the striker on the pitch against Como. If Fenerbahce manages to secure the deal, Palladino hopes to have him for the Coppa Italia clash with Juventus.
