Umar Sadiq Nets 39th goal in 74 games for Almeria
Sevilla, Valencia to battle for Nigerian in summer
Umar Sadiq was on song Monday night to inspire his club,UD Almeria to a 3-0 defeat of visiting Ponferradina in a matchweek 35 LaLiga 2 game at the Estadio Mediterraneo.
It was the Nigerian’s eighth in 10 games in 2022 and 16th in 29 games so far this term. The goal, Arnau Puigmal’s strike in the 52nd minute and the added time goal by Inigo Eguaras Curro lifted Almeria back to second spot on the log, one point behind leader Eibar as the battle for promotion to the LaLiga Santander hots up with about six games left.
Sadiq has been very prolific since he joined Almeria from Serbian side, Partizan Belgrade in October 2020 and the 25 year old has now scored 39 times in 74 games for the club with 36 of the goals coming in the league.
The Nigerian’s goal Monday night was also his fourth in three games against Ponferradina after netting a hat-trick in Almeria’s 3-1 defeat of the club in January 2021.
Meanwhile, two LaLiga clubs Sevilla and Valencia will reportedly go head-to-head for the forward in the summer transfer window.
The Super Eagles star is said to have a €30million release clause in his contract at the club and Valencia are reportedly ready to offer a reasonable figure for his signature.
Valencia manager Pepe Bordalás is keen on fixing the problems in his attack at the end of the season, with the futures of Marcos Andre and Maxi Gomez also said not to be certain.
However, Sevilla are said to have been involved earlier in a negotiation for the 25-year-old and the price tag may scare Valencia who may not have the financial power to compete with the Seville-based side.
