Umukoro and Olajide Qualify for Big 12 Sprint Showdown
Nigerian sprinters Success Umukoro and Olayinka Olajide have powered their way into the women’s 60m final at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, representing Texas Tech University with great performances at the Sports Performance Center.
Olajide, a sophomore, delivered the race of her career with a personal best of 7.28 seconds, securing the fourth-fastest qualifying time. Umukoro, a senior and seasoned Big 12 competitor, clocked 7.31 seconds to book her place in Saturday’s final.
The pair will line up against a strong field that includes Baylor’s Royaltee Brown and Hannah Lowe, BYU’s Paje Rasmussen, and TCU’s Indya Mayberry and London Tucker, alongside fellow Texas Tech sprinter Symoria Adkins.
For Umukoro, the final represents a chance to complete her medal collection after winning silver in 2025 and bronze in 2024.
Olajide, meanwhile, is chasing her first podium finish, buoyed by her breakthrough performance in the heats. With three Texas Tech athletes in the final, the Red Raiders are poised for a strong showing in the battle for the Big 12 60m crown.
