WAFCON 2026: Gusau Sets Super Falcons’ Target at 11th Title
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Ibrahim Gusau has set a clear target for the Super Falcons ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco: winning an unprecedented 11th continental crown.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Thursday, Gusau emphasized the importance of defending the title the Falcons captured in dramatic fashion last year.
In that unforgettable final, Nigeria came from two goals down to defeat hosts Morocco, sealing their 10th championship in what many hailed as one of the greatest comebacks in African football history.
The NFF boss expressed gratitude for the support the team received during their quest for ‘La Decima’ and called for continued backing as the Falcons prepare for another historic campaign.
‘Last year we were able to win the trophy for the 10th time,’ Gusau said.
‘Now we are going for the 11th, and you know when you are going to defend a trophy, you are going to be under pressure. I’m sure you are going to be there with us.’
Nigeria has been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Malawi, and Zambia, setting the stage for another challenging but potentially rewarding tournament.
