Waldrum Accuses NFF of Mismanaging $960,000 FIFA World Cup Funds

Former Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has reignited controversy over the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) handling of FIFA funds meant for the team’s preparation ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

In a resurfaced video circulating on social media platform X, Waldrum alleged that FIFA released $960,000 (about ₦1.4 billion) to Nigeria in October 2022 to support the Super Falcons’ build-up to the global tournament.

He questioned why the team did not benefit from proper training camps or adequate logistics despite the funding.

‘I have a real close contact here in the US that is very connected with some of the board at FIFA. This person told me that in October, every country was given $960k from FIFA to prepare for the World Cup. Where is that money?’ Waldrum asked.

The American tactician criticized the NFF for failing to organize a pre-World Cup camp, citing the team’s chaotic trip to Japan for a friendly match.

According to him, several players arrived only hours before kickoff after long-haul flights, leaving little time for training.

Waldrum further claimed that FIFA provides financial support for federations unable to afford business-class travel, with deductions made from their World Cup earnings. He argued that this meant the NFF had no justification for substandard travel arrangements.

Despite the challenges, Nigeria reached the Round of 16, where they bowed out to England on penalties. Waldrum insists the team’s preparations were undermined by poor planning and mismanagement of resources.

The NFF has yet to issue an official response to the renewed allegations, which have sparked fresh debate about transparency and accountability in Nigerian football administration.
