Waldrum: We are playing Canada to fine tune our strategies for our Paris 2024 opening game Vs Brazil

Super Falcons coach, Randy Waldrum says Tuesday warm up game against Olympic champions, Canada will allow him and the rest of the technical crew to work on strategies they will deploy when they face Brazil in their opening game of the Paris Olympics on July 25 at the Stade de Bordeaux in Bordeaux, France.

Waldrum revealed his girls are in high spirit and rearing to go especially after their impressive displays at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

‘The Canada game is a friendly and it allows us to work on a couple of things we have put in place during this camp and to see some players, to find those best combinations that we can use when we play against Brazil in our opening game,’ said Waldrum in an interview.

The American coach also revealed the Super Falcons are eager to play.

‘I think the girls are ready, they are tired of playing against each other and need a new opponent to face. I think we have had a great camp, the players have worked extremely hard but, unfortunately we have had a few players coming a little bit late but the level has been extremely high and the players are focused, looking forward to the Olympics,’ he said.

The Super Falcons will also play against Spain three days after the game against Brazil at the same venue before facing Japan in their final group game at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes.

The Nigerians are featuring at the Games for the first since 2008 in Beijing, China where they finished bottom of their group after losing all three games and conceded five goals.
