Wayne Rooney hails ‘difficult to prepare for’ Josh Maja

Plymouth manager and Man United legend, Wayne Rooney has hailed West Brom forward, Josh Maja after the Nigerian netted to give his side a 1-0 win at the Hawthorns last weekend.

Maja tapped home from close range for his sixth goal in as many Championship games for the Baggies.

Rooney revealed he and his side were aware of the threat Maja would pose ahead of the game but they could do nothing to stop the Nigerian.

‘He’s an interesting player, difficult to prepare for. He drops in and goes into a false nine position, we were aware of that.

‘At times I thought we dealt with him OK but when you are a player who is confident in scoring goals they always seem to get that one opportunity and can make the difference.

‘I thought we handled him well at times but he comes up with the moment which wins the game. He’s a good player and West Brom are a good team, very experienced and know how to get results,’ Rooney said after the game.

Maja has risen from injury worries that plagued his season last term and has been inspiring for West Brom thus far.
