‘We Can Compete’: Iran’s Abarghouei Confident Ahead of Nigeria Clash

Iranian defender Hossein Abarghouei has voiced confidence in his team’s ability to challenge the Super Eagles in their upcoming international friendly on Friday.

Speaking to Tasnim News Agency, the centre-back emphasized the squad’s determination despite the backdrop of war, insisting that preparations have been strong and morale remains high.

‘Thank God, our training is going very well and we have a very good camp. I hope we can make people happy by getting good results against Nigeria and Costa Rica, because this game is an important step towards participating in the World Cup,’ he said.

Abarghouei dismissed concerns over limited collective training time, stressing that players have maintained fitness individually.

‘In the short time we came to Turkey, we practiced well. All the national team players are also professionals and it is not like they have only rested since the war began. All the kids have been practicing individually. Our physical condition is good and we can compete with Nigeria,’ he added.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s camp at the Bellis Deluxe Hotel in Turkey has grown to 22 players following the arrival of Wilfred Ndidi, though Calvin Bassey has withdrawn due to a back injury.

The Super Eagles are aiming for a strong showing as both sides continue their preparations for future international competitions. The fixture rekindles memories of their last meeting at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which ended in a goalless draw.
