‘We’ll see in the near future, hopefully, and I’ll start to make a decision…’: Adarabioyo opens up on Super Eagles future

Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo says he’s nearing a decision on his international future, as speculation continues over a potential switch to Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Speaking on ARISE NEWS Wednesday morning during his first-ever visit to Nigeria, the London-born centre-back revealed that the question of national allegiance has followed him for years.

‘It’s something I still think about,’ Adarabioyo said. ‘We’ll see in the near future, hopefully, and I’ll start to make a decision… It’s just something that has obviously been a topic for many years now since I’ve become a professional footballer.’

The 27-year-old, who joined Chelsea last summer from Fulham, has represented England at youth level but remains eligible for Nigeria. His comments come amid growing interest from the Nigeria Football Federation and fans eager to see him don the green and white.

Adarabioyo described his arrival in Nigeria as deeply emotional and grounding.

‘As soon as you touch down and you step off the plane, you automatically feel that calmness, that you’re at home,’ he said. ‘You breathe the air, you just feel… it felt very special.’

Visiting with his two brothers, the Chelsea star said the warm welcome from locals made his first trip unforgettable.

‘I’m experiencing everything for the first time here with my family… very nice welcome.’

As part of his homecoming, Adarabioyo is hosting the Adarabioyo Youth Cup at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan.

The grassroots tournament, held in partnership with the Lagos State Football Association, features young talents from across the city competing in front of scouts, coaches, and the Chelsea star himself.

‘I’d love to meet all the fans and all the children there today,’ he said. ‘It’s inspired by my desire to give back and connect with young footballers in my country of heritage.’

Reflecting on his move to Chelsea, Adarabioyo said the club’s winning culture fuels his drive.

‘You go to the training ground, you see pictures of all the different trophies… you automatically have that expectation and pressure to know that this year we have to win something.’
