World Athletics Rankings: Amusan is sole Nigerian in top 100

Enekwechi, Ogazi and Ajayi are top three highest ranked Nigerians in men's overall ranking

Sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan is the only Nigerian, man or woman, who makes the overall top 100 ranking following the update the World rankings by World Athletics on Tuesday.

The 27 year old is ranked the 40th best in the women’s overall ranking, dropping 13 places from her 27th best ranking at the end of last month.

Amusan has also dropped from third as at June 30, 2024 to fifth in the 100m hurdles ranking.

Th next ranked Nigerian in the women’s overall ranking is long jumper, Ese Brume who is now 102nd in the world, dropping from 98th as at the end of June while Favour Ofili, 295th, completes the top three highest ranked Nigerians in the women’s overall ranking.

Shot Putter, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi is still the highest ranked Nigerian in the men’s overall ranking. The reigning African Games and African Championships champion is ranked 149th best, followed by quarter miler, Samuel Ogazi (501st) and reigning fastest man in Nigeria, Kanyinsola Ajayi (561) if Emmanuel Bamidele (556) is not regarded as a bonafide Nigerian.
