World Leader Enekwechi Set for Millrose Games Debut in New York
Faces Kovacs, Campbell in star-studded Shot Put field
Nigerian Shot Put star Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will make his debut at the prestigious Millrose Games this Sunday, arriving as the world leader in the event following his 20.82m throw in Poland last weekend.
The 33-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, heads into the 118th edition of the Millrose Games at the Nike Track and Field Center at The Armory as one of the headline acts.
The meet, which serves as the second leg of the 2026 World Athletics Continental Indoor Tour Gold series, has once again assembled Olympic champions, world medalists, continental champions and rising stars for a night of elite competition.
Enekwechi, a consistent force on the global stage, will face familiar rivals in New York. Among them are Ireland’s Eric Favors, Jamaica’s Rajindra Campbell, and a trio of Americans viz Joe Kovacs, Roger Steen and Josh Awotunde, all of whom boast personal bests beyond the 22m mark.
Interestingly, Enekwechi is not only one of six athletes worldwide to surpass the 20m mark this indoor season, but he is also the only competitor in Sunday’s field to have already done so in 2026.
Four of his rivals will be making their indoor debuts for the year at the Millrose Games, adding intrigue to what promises to be a high-quality contest.
