World Rankings: Duplantis moves top, Kipyegon retains world number one position for seventh straight week

World and Olympic Pole Vault champion, Armand Duplantis has soared to the top of the world rankings following his world record-setting feat at the Diamond
League final in Oregon, USA last weekend.

The Swede cleared a world record height of 6.23m to break the 6.21m best he set a year earlier at the same arena to win his first world outdoor title.

The mark did not just fetch him his seventh consecutive world record in the event but also his second Diamond League title after winning at the Weltklasse in
Zurich, Switzerland last year.

It has also catapaulted him to the top of the men’s overall world rankings, barely a week after trailing the duo of Ryan Crouser (Shot Put) and Noah Lyles
(100 and 200m).

Duplantis won 40 points with his world record mark to improve from 1536 to 1576 points to move top with Crouser dropping to second (1552 points) and Lyles
(1548 points).

In the women’s category, Tsegay Gudaf’s world record performance in the 5000m in Oregon which fetched her 46 extra points could only move her from ninth to
fifth position in the world rankings as Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon retained her number one status in the overall women’s ranking for the seventh straight week.

The 29 year old who lost one of the three world records she set before the World Championships to Gudaf at the Diamond League final added nine points with
her performance in Oregon to garner 1584 points, 26 more than world 200m champion, Shericka Jackson of Jamaica while Dutch flying woman, Femke Bol is third.
