Ximena Restrepo, Falilat Ogunkoya’s rival confirmed World Athletics Senior Vice President

Colombia’s 1992 Olympics 400m bronze medalist, Ximena Restrepo has been confirmed by the World Athletics Council as the Senior Vice President to Sebastian Coe who has been re-elected as President for a third term.

Restrepo, who lost in all three head to head races she had with Falilat Ogunkoya in 1996, has become the first woman to take that role.

The Colombian who holds a 49.64 personal best over the full lap race has never beaten any of the top three Nigerians she competed against in 1996, losing once to Fatimat Yusuf and Olabisi Afolabi.

No Nigerian in the last two decades has been a member of World Athletics Council despite attempts made by Solomon Ogba, a two-time President of the AFN and his successor, Shehu Ibrahim Gusau.

While Ogba contested to be an ordinary council member, Gusau, on his first attempt, wanted to be one of the Vice Presidents!.
